Things I have looked up online in the past 24 hours

Carousels

French curves (it’s a drafting tool, people! Don’t get any ideas.)

The course catalog at the college where I work

Basalt

All the Roadrunning

What kind of rock makes up white gravel (inconclusive)

The word “saltatory”

Whether nonpasteurized is a word or whether it should be unpasteurized

Icelandic cuisine

Bay of Fundy

Eskers

Journals that read over the summer

And only some of this is for work. What weird things do you find yourself looking up when you are writing?

  1. I looked up the word “captious” that was used in a PhD thesis I was examining. Fabulous word! I had never seen it before.

  2. Whether callipygian is a true compliment or perhaps just a very specific type of small, caramel-colored rodent with a hairless tushie.

And I want a brownie point (or just a brownie) for spelling callipygian right the first time.

(Is Icelandic cuisine nonpasteurized, unnpasteurized, or, you know, the other thing? We should look that up.)
